Two new International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Standards will make scuba diving training programmes safer for diving newcomers as well as more experienced divers. The Standards are aimed at introductory scuba experience training programmes for non-divers and advanced programmes that deliver enriched air nitrox (EAN) diver certification.
'By implementing the requirements of these Standards for recreational scuba diving, training organisations and divers will be able continue practising scuba diving in safe conditions and thus enjoy their sport with the minimum of risk,' says Eduardo Moreno Cerezo, Chair of the ISO technical committee that developed the Standards.
Recreational diving services – Requirements for introductory training programmes to scuba diving, ISO 11121:2009 and ISO 11107:2009, Recreational diving services – Requirements for training programmes on enriched air nitrox (EAN) diving, answer the needs of the expanding diving market, where competent training is essential.
The two Standards specify the conditions under which training is to be provided, supplementing the general requirements for recreational diving services specified in Recreational diving services – Requirements for recreational scuba diving service providers, ISO 24803:2007.

About Standards New Zealand
Standards New Zealand is the operating arm of the Standards Council, and part of New Zealand’s standards and conformance infrastructure. Standards New Zealand is an autonomous Crown entity responsible for managing the development and distribution of Standards across a range of sectors nationally.
Standards New Zealand is a self-funded, not-for-profit organisation, relying on revenue primarily from contracts with sponsors to develop Standards, and from sales of Standards publications. Our independence helps us facilitate a cross section of stakeholders’ contributions to the development of Standards, and ensure that each Standard meets the needs of end users.
