Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) service
Standards New Zealand operates the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Enquiry Point for New Zealand on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. New Zealand is a signatory to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade. The Agreement seeks to ensure that national technical regulations, standards and procedures for assessment of conformity do not create unnecessary obstacles to trade. As a WTO member country, New Zealand is required to operate a national enquiry point to respond to TBT queries.
As part of our enquiry point service you are able to search for recently proposed TBT Notifications of measures that may have an impact on New Zealand’s trade in foreign markets. If you wish to obtain a copy of any of these documents or subscribe to our email service for regular advice about TBT Notifications email us at wto@standards.co.nz.
On request, the TBT Enquiry Point will obtain copies of documents referenced in foreign TBT Notifications. If you consider your trade to the notifying country may be affected by a proposed measure, you can contact the Trade Negotiations Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to raise your concerns.
