NZS 8134.0:2008 Health and disability services (general) Standards

NZS 8134:2008 Health and disability services Standards is mandatory for those health and disability service providers that are subject to the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act 2001.  This Standard is also mandatory for relevant service-based contracts that receive health funding.  Where this Standard is not a requirement, its application will promote good and safe practice by providers for consumers.  NZS 8134.0:2008 Health and disability services (general) Standard contains general and reference information for the NZS 8134:2008 Health and disability services Standards, including definitions and the audit framework.  It should be read in conjunction with Parts 1, 2, and 3. NZS 8134 Parts 0 to 3 are sold as a loose-leaf set, for use in a binder.  Each part can also be purchased separately.

NZS 8134.1:2008 Health and disability services (core) Standards

This Standard is to be read in conjunction with NZS 8134.0:2008 Health and disability services (general) Standard which contains the definitions and audit framework information applicable across the health and disability suite. Part 1 is the result of the revision of NZS 8134:2001 Health and Disability Sector Standards and incorporates the requirements from NZS 8143:2001 National Mental Health Sector Standard. NZS 8134:2008 is applicable to a wide range of health and disability services and includes Standards on consumer rights, organisational management, continuum of service delivery, and safe and appropriate environment. NZS 8134 Parts 0 to 3 are sold as a loose-leaf set, for use in a binder.  Each part can also be purchased separately.

NZS 8134.2:2008 Health and disability services (restraint minimisation and safe practice) Standards

This Standard is to be read in conjunction with NZS 8134.0:2008 Health and disability services (general) Standard which contains the definitions and audit framework information applicable across the health and disability suite. NZS 8134.2:2008 is the result of the first revision of NZS 8141:2001 Restraint minimization and safe practice. It aims to reduce the use of restraint in all its forms and to encourage the use of least restrictive practices. It provides guidance on restraint minimisation, safe restraint practice, and seclusion. All services must meet NZS 8134.2.1. NZS 8134.2.2 and NZS 8134.2.3 will be assessed as being not applicable to a service where restraint and seclusion are not used. This Standard is to be read in conjunction with NZS 8134.0:2008 Health and disability services (general) Standard which contains the definitions and audit framework information applicable across the health and disability suite. NZS 8134.3 is the result of the first revision of NZS 8142:2001 Infection control. The main intent of Part 3 is to facilitate consistently safe and quality health and disability services, by identifying principles designed to reduce the rate of infections in the health and disability sector. It provides guidance on infection control management, implementing the infection control programme, policies and procedures, education, surveillance, and antimicrobial usage.
