Mechatronics – new field of technical work proposed by ISO – seeking feedback

Standards New Zealand is seeking feedback on a new field of technical work at the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on mechatronics, which has been proposed by Association Francaise de Normalisation (AFNOR, in France).

Mechatronics is the combination of mechanical, electronic, computer, control, and system design engineering. In 2006 the mechatronics industry in Europe was estimated at $32 billion euro with a growth rate of 30% over four years. This relatively new field of technical work aims to improve the functionality of mechanical products.

For more information, or to submit comments including support for or opposition to the proposals, please email karen.batt@standards.co.nz, Manager International Development at Standards New Zealand. Comments submitted will be considered to generate a recommended New Zealand position and comments on these proposals. The deadline for submissions is 28 October 2009.
