Carrying licence cards mandatory for all plumbers, gasfitters, and drainlayers

The Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayer's Act will be fully implemented from 1 April, bringing in a legal requirement for people working in the industry to carry a licence card while on the job.

Chairperson of the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board, Hazel Armstrong, welcomes the Act's full implementation and is pleased that all people involved in plumbing, gasfitting, or drainlaying work are, from 1 April, required to carry a licence card.

AS/NZS 1576 Scaffolding

AS/NZS 1576.1:2010 General requirements

Sets out design and operational requirements for scaffolding systems, scaffolding equipment, and scaffolds. It also includes the specifications for catch platforms erected on scaffolds. The stairway details also apply to temporary stairways for use on a general construction site.

AS/NZS 2982:2010 Laboratory design and construction

Specifies requirements for the design and construction of laboratories. Sections 1 to 7 apply to all laboratories. Sections 8, 9, and 10 contain additional requirements that apply to biological, radiological, secondary school and tertiary laboratories.

DR AS/NZS 1604.2 Specification for preservative treatment Part 2: Reconstituted wood-based products. (Revision of AS/NZS 1604.2:2004)

Sets out a specification for preservative treatment of reconstituted wood-based products including particleboard, fibreboard, and oriented strand products, and combinations of these materials. It specifies the preservative penetration pattern and the preservative retention requirements suitable for each hazard class.

Comments: The committee met in December to review submissions on whether to remove the section on reflective pliable membranes from the Standard. This deletion has now been confirmed. The committee is now finalising the draft and is on target for publication in April 2010.
