To keep your home and family safe Energy Safety recommends you do an electrical safety check in and around your home twice a year. It may save a life or prevent an accident in the future.
It is important to check electrical appliances before using them to make sure there is no damage that could cause electric shocks, either from the appliance or from the supply lead. If you are using electrical appliances outdoors, or in damp situations, it is strongly recommended that you use a residual current device (RCD) or isolating transformer, to give personal protection in the event of a fault.

A summary of Peter Berry's 22 January 2010 report on the 73rd International Electrotechnical Commission's (IEC) General Meeting, 17 to 21 October 2009, in Tel Aviv, is below. Peter Berry is President of the New Zealand National Committee of the IEC.
Thank you for the opportunity to represent New Zealand at the 73rd IEC General Meeting in Tel Aviv, Israel. The New Zealand National IEC Committee met on 22 September 2009 to review the papers for the IEC General Meeting, agree New Zealand voting for the IEC elections, and to discuss issues on their programme.
