Coalbed methane – new ISO Standards proposed

Standards New Zealand is consulting with stakeholders about a new work item proposal for an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Standard for coalbed methane (CBM). The proposal has been put forward by the Standardization Administration of China (SAC). SAC is proposing a new committee that will develop a series of Standards for CBM.

LPG at home – are you over the limit?

New limits on how much LPG can be stored in homes have been set by the Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA).

'LPG is a highly flammable gas that burns explosively in the event of a leak and ignition,' says Dr Simon Buckland, ERMA New Zealand Hazardous Substances Compliance Manager. 'Imposing limits on the quantities stored indoors will reduce the risk to people and property should the gas accidentally ignite.'

LPG cabinet heaters to require approval prior to sale

Energy Safety would like to remind all that from next month, LPG cabinet heaters will require approval prior to their sale.

Cabinet heaters are mobile or portable, unflued heaters that are designed for indoor use and operate on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sourced from a LPG gas cylinder self-contained within the heater.

Comments: The committee met in February 2010. The outcome of that meeting was agreement that New Zealand-specific conditions will apply to all recognised certification regimes. Development of a public comment draft is underway.
