New video resource available – Electricity Act 1992, Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010, Compliance/Enforcement, and Standards

Energy Safety, the Electrical Workers' Registration Board, and Standards New Zealand have just released a new video resource developed for the Electrical sector. The video has been created so all practitioners can have ongoing access to this information, rather than relying on traditional roadshow type seminars which can be difficult for many practitioners to attend. Creating the first video resource has taken longer than anticipated, however, the process and framework for updating it is now in place and future updates will be available more quickly.

'Tom Leong Meritorious Safety Award' winner – John Kelly

John Kelly from Standards New Zealand is this year's recipient of the Electrical Safety Organisation's (ESO's) 'Tom Leong Meritorious Safety Award'. John was delighted to receive the award, which was presented to him by Leong at a recent ESO meeting. The award recognises John's contribution to the development of electrical safety Standards and his international standing in the Standards community.

Derek Johns – sixth term as Chair of IEC Technical Committee 61

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Standardization Management Board recently appointed Derek Johns for a sixth term as Chair of IEC Technical Committee (TC) 61. Derek is one of the longest serving IEC committee Chairs and the only New Zealand Chair of an IEC committee.

Solar Decathlon 2011 – Victoria University's 'First light house' wins Engineering Contest and third place overall

Wowing jurors with its attention to detail, craftsmanship, and unusual energy visualisation system, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand received first place in the Engineering Contest of the US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011. In the overall competition, the University of Maryland took first place, Purdue University took second place, and Victoria University took third place.

AS/NZS 3823.2:2011 Performance of electrical appliances – Air conditioners and heat pumps – Part 2: Energy labelling and minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) requirements

Specifies the energy labeling requirements for single-phase non-ducted air conditioners of the vapour compression type within the scope of AS/NZS 3823.1.1. It also specifies the minimum energy performance standard (MEPS) requirements for single-phase and three-phase air conditioners of the vapour compression type up to a rated total cooling capacity of 65 kW that fall within the scope of AS/NZS 3823.1.1, AS/NZS 3823.1.2, AS/NZS 3823.1.3 or AS/NZS 3823.1.4.
Supersedes AS/NZS 3823.2:2009
