Over-pressure protection requirements with pressure regulators in fixed gas installations

Issue 33 – November 2011

Energy Safety has received requests for advice on the use (in fixed installations) of regulators that are more commonly used with portable LPG appliances such as cabinet heaters and barbecues. The installation of pressure regulators is covered by the Standards for gas installation, NZS 5261:2003 Gas installation and AS/NZS 5601.1:2010 Gas installations – Part 1: General installations. In the case of boats and caravans, NZS 5428:2006 LPG installations for non-propulsive purposes in caravans and boats and AS/NZS 5601.2:2010 Gas installations – Part 2: LP Gas installations in caravans and boats for non-propulsive purposes also apply.
