Electromagnetic compatibility limit Standard to be amended
A New Zealand only Amendment to the Electromagnetic compatibility limit Standard, AS/NZS 61000.3.2:2007, is planned for publication in November this year. The Amendment will delete the less stringent compliance option for testing compact fluorescent lamps with an integrated controller (CFLis) with a power input of 11 to 25 W, to reduce disturbances to New Zealand’s electrical supply.
‘The New Zealand only Amendment will only allow CFLs with low harmonic distortion to be used,’ says Derek Johns, committee Chair and consultant, Electrical Consultancy Services. ‘This change will bring the bulk of the anticipated CFLi load up to the higher standard of harmonic control, while allowing the full range of smaller CFLis (including candles and small sphericals), to remain available.’
AS/NZS 61000.3.2:2007 deals with the limitation of harmonic currents injected into the public supply system. It provides manufacturers and suppliers of electricity, and users of elect ...read more [opens in new window]
Explosive gas atmospheres Standards - revisions available for public comment
The following draft Standards are available for public comment; the closing date is 20 November 2008:
DR 08193 Explosive atmospheres Part 14: Electrical installation design, selection, and erection (IEC 60079-14, Ed. 4.0 (2007) MOD). Contains requirements for the design, selection, and erection of electrical installations in hazardous areas associated with explosive atmospheres.
Renewable energy power supply systems and equipment
DR08211 specifies performance requirements for low voltage a.c. output inverters, both single-phase and three-phase, intended for use in stand-alone power systems with batteries. The draft Standard, Stand-alone inverter – Performance requirements, provides manufacturers, test laboratories, and users of inverters, with a set of parameters and tests for assessing the performance of an inverter.
